Tattoos: Going to the extreme

Everybody has their limits, but how far is too far?

I’ve talked a lot about how tattoos primarily used as a form of self-expression, but like most other things in life, there’s a limit to that. Now this “limit” can be defined differently by many people, but generally there’s an extreme that you don’t want to reach.

At a certain point, in my opinion, body art turns into self-destruction. The same thing that drives these people to get tattoos, becomes an addiction. The attention that is garnered from the public when you’re covered head to toe in black ink is so desired that these people want to go even farther than that. Social media has seen people covering themselves in scales to become a human lizard. Blotching every square inch with spots to become a cheetah. I remember when I was a kid, paging through the Guinness Book of World Records and seeing these kinds of people. This was when it was so strange that you’d only find it in the wacky categories or in Circus Freak Shows.

I need to clarify, I am not calling people that make these decisions freaks, or in any way knocking their decisions. Society will stare, but they are still human beings allowed to choose how they want to express themselves.
